hi, normally asus provides a nice programs called asus data security manager. It encrypts everything u want and adds a new extension. When u run this encrypted file it will automatically start asus data security manager to encrypt it. that means -> no encrypting programm runing all the time in the backround. still only a single click (or 2) can encrypt/decrypt a file.

Thats exactly what i need :p
i dont use this asus tool as its very old, can cause system problems & freezes and worst thing: if u loose your os u cant decrypt your files anymore.. u can only decrypt them on the same os/with the same asus-software-installation as u encrypted it.

anyone can recommend me a programm?
please no programs like truecrypt which make a virtual hd where u can put your files.

e.g. i have a .txt on my desktop which i use often but still includes stuff which other ppl should read. Now i want to double click it, enter a pw and see the .txt. And if i feel like leaving my laptop i right click the .txt , say encrypt and no one can read it anymore without a pw.
should work with all formats (.exe ,.jpg , .txt,...............).
and it shouldnt run in the backround all the time.

    thx bb :D

And lock your desktop when you leave your computer. Otherwise someone may just install a key logger, undelete older versions/temporary copies of your precious text file, give you a goatse wallpaper, or worse.

careful though, TrueCrypt is not yet certified for Whole Disk Encryption on Windows 7 (and probably Server 2008 as well).

Try "My Lockbox", it will do exactly what you need. You simply password protect a folder and no one else can gain access to it. When the folder is locked, it no longer is visible by the OS, so you can hide all of those files you want hidden in there. Really nice and easy GUI too.

truecrypt will create a folder where u can drop your files in and encrypt it ?

not at all what i need.

and i want to "lock" more than just folders :/ also .txt files or pictures etc.. and not the whole folder only :)

besides i think this folder-lock requires a process running in the backround all the time?

    thanks :)

Well it locks what ever is in the folder, so txt pictures, etc. No running processes either. Really lightweight program. Does not take any time to lock the folder, which is very nice. Encryption requires time, so if you're wanting to encrypt movies and what not, I hope you have a nice processor, or a lot of free time.

Another option is to use Winrar and just set a password to the archive (which can contain or or more files).
