Hey everyone, dont know if u guys know it or not. Just want to share this
By using vista, it will automatically created back up copy of your system. Which mean will max take up 3GB space of your hard drive. If you want to low down the storage backup space, you can by using command.
1) Click Start - All Programs - Accessories. Right click on ‘Command Prompt’ and click ‘Run as Administrator’.
2) Type the following in the command prompt: vssadmin list shadowstorage
The results shown will be similar to this:
Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 2.702 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 2.933 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 5 GB
If you feel like Vista is taking up too much space, then use this command to lower it:
vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=[Drive Letter]: /For=[Drive Letter]: /Maxsize=[space]
For example, I executed this command to lower it to 2GB:
vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=2GB
it help me to low down my c drive used 17GB before was 22GB.

Keep in mind that (1) Vista shrinks it automatically as the disk gets full... although maybe it isn't doing so enough or fast enough for you, and also (2) shrinking this space means fewer system restore points will be available.
Personally... I have 20 gb free, so I don't mind it using 8 gb for backups. Sure I could have like 26 gb free if I shrunk it... but who cares... free space is wasted space. But if for example I wanted to copy 25 gb of data onto my drive right now... then yeah, this could be useful. -
By default Vista reserves 15% of disk space for shadow copy. You can make these changes if you want to, but you should only do so if you really need the space. If you just like to see the free space indicator show as much as possible, get over that habit. Free space is wasted space, and you're much better letting the system use it for something until you need it.
You can also see my "where's my disk space" guide in my signature more more discussion about this.
