hi all i just installed speedfan and when i am trying to configure fans theres nothing detected. any help?
and also the HDD is not detected.
-
The fan control only works for desktops. Theres no way to control the fans for your model, it is hard coded into the BIOS.
-
ok is there any way to control HDD temp mine runs very hot even i am not using it much. mine is a western digital and i heard that they not good ones...
-
No you cannot directly control HDD temps. What temperatures are you getting anyway? The safe range is 40-55c
Try reducing uncessary process running. Extra stuff running will put more load on the HD causing it to heat up more.
I have a WD 250gb on mine and its temps are fine. Try using a notebook cooler or raise your laptop a little. -
it goes 50-60C without much load. i have a weired solution can i remove the hard drive case which hides it from being visible,i think by doing so it can get more air and despense heat. what do you think is it safe, can i keep it on my lap by doing so??
it sounds crazy but please do comment. -
The HDD is actually not completely hidden, theres a big vent in the bottom (beneath the left palm rest).
You cannot just take it out or get an extension cord for it. The caddy that holds the HD needs to be in direct contact with the pins on the notebook.
I think its your CPU/GPU thats causing the chassis to heat up along with your HDD. -
no no i think you dint get me. what i am trying to say is can i remove the vent
cover( the one we remove first before taking out the hard drive( i am not removing the HDD)). and regarding my CPU/GPU am attaching the temps let me know if they are high, these temps are under no load am just kept my browser open. -
Oh i see, well then yes, but be careful that you dont hit the hard drive and stuff
There will still be 2 screws holding the hard drive in place after you have taken out the vent. -
i see them, but my concern is i can see RTC battery too is it safe run like that?
-
Aslong as nothing touches them.
Its just like opening a desktops case. Less protection. Thats why you have to be abit more careful. -
thanks for the help
+1
oh forgot is it safe to keep on my lap?? -
Yeah, seeing as the HD is protected by the caddy from static discharges.
-
how can i make sure it is protected by caddy from static discharge??
sorry for bothering you.. -
or is it better to repalce the HDD i heard hitachi runs on very low temps??
-
Its fine.
The caddy is made out of plastic which doesnt conduct electricity and isnt ferromagnetic. Chances of static discharge harming your HD is small anyway.
If your gonna switch to Hitachi, make sure you get the newer models. The old ones used to catch on fire. If you have alot of spare money, get a SSD which is significantly cooler than any traditional hard drive.
Whats the ambient temperatures over there anyway? -
ya i see a black plastic over the HDD is that you talking about?
temp here is 21-25C avg. -
Yes ..........
