i have used spybot for awhile now, but i hear adware is pretty good also. any comments?

You must mean "Ad-Aware", I dont think you want any "Ad Ware" in your computer. Well for me, I use them both. It doesn't hurt you to have both, and I only run it after I download a bunch of useless crap. Don't have to use it all the time.
-
yeah, my bad, ad-aware
-
Right, running a few doesn't hurt. There is a free version of AdAware as well.
-
I've got Ad-Aware on my laptop, and it works great.
-
i find spybot better ...it finds stuff that Ad-Aware could find...
been using it forever... -
... and vice versa. That's why use both.

I recently did a serach for this type of software and found that PCMAG rated SpySweeper as the best anti-spyware software on their tests. They have a 14day free trial you can download. The new version (4.0) scan for over 96000 types of adware/spyware, browser hijacking, etc... on your system.

The company I work at uses SpySweeper. They apparently tried hundreds of tools and this one picked up the most real threats by far. I personally use both SpyBot and Ad-Aware, but security is big issue where I work so SpySweeper must be pretty good. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
-
I like spysweeper except for one problem...it uses alot of resources, but it is very quick. I think it takes 5 mins to scan mine whereas spybot takes alittle bit longer.
-
I saw an article that said that CounterSpy beat SpySweeper.
I'd just use Microsoft AntiSpyware, since it's free and works just like CounterSpy. I use that along with Firefox and have had no spyware problems. -
You should always use multiple scanning software, if one misses something there is always another to catch it. Both Spybot & Ad-aware are well known and are very good in taking out spyware. If you want real time protection then MS antispyware is very good.
-
As of yet I have not heard of or found one software that catches them all. Most reputable places say the best thing is to run two spyware softwares to be safe. I know that kinda sucks, but thank the internet advertisers that use spyware to hack your system (yes, I call it hacking/virus because they are installing things on my computer that use my computers system resources without my consent)

i use spybot, ad-aware and microsoft anti-spyware and they all work great together a relli good combo like some find other bits and peices and vice versa
-
Lol, my smartass reply would be switch to Mac. But realisticly Spybot is good. I think its way better than adaware. I personally use Bazooka Spyware Scanner, and Hijackthis logs.
By the way, anybody know which spyware apps are being excluded from scanning now? I heard some spyware companies are paying spyware scanners to exclude their software. -
I'm not quite sure why everyone likes Ad-Aware so much, other than the fact that it's free. Microsoft AntiSpyware is better, and still free.
If you are going to use a pair of spyware removers, do MS Antispy and SpySweeper or MS Antispy and Spybot. I've stopped recommending Ad-Aware after I did a scan with MS Antispy and found several (about 30) spyware apps that Ad-Aware missed. A few is excusable, but more than 15 is enough to make me question how good the software really is.
I only use one, but if I did get another, it'd be either CounterSpy or SpySweeper. No Ad-Aware for me.
That's just how I feel. I live by my own experiences. -
I use the following, one after another once a week:
- Lavasoft Ad-Aware
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Great tool, i reccomend it to anyone)
- Spyware Blaster
