hello, i wonder if it would be better to change the temp folder of winrar to a folder on my 2nd hdd (sata) instatt of my primary ssd?
I´m not sure how this temp files work but if winrar saves the files which it extracts to the temp folder, and then moves it to the dir where i want it to be, it would be faster to let winrar write on the sata the temp files ( faster writing speed than ssd) ?
Also it wouldnt damage the ssd so fast (i download 10gb or more a week.. that would be 10gb of copy to ssd + delete from ssd?). Or am i totaly wrong here and winrar only write some mb to the temp folder?![]()
i came to this idea as i just extracted smth (downloaded on sata, extract to the same sata.. but saw a "file moveing screen" which took some seconds).
thanks

Well, first of all, any HDD will be slower than a SSD.
About your SSD life - check the manufacture's sheet on what values are used to estimate its life.
At 10GB per day - that may be pushing it, but you'd still get a lot of life out of it - I haven't got any values at hand at the moment.
AnNd WinRAR no sure how it works. -
i have a intel postville gen2. Well the ssd is slower at writing compared to my sata?
What i dont know if is winrar moves the whole file to the temp folder, and then moves it to the destination folder.. or if the temp files are only some little mb. If i extract a game with 6.5GB that would be alot moveing/deleting on the ssd.. but if the temp´s are only 10mb then its no problem.
Still i then wonder if writing the temps on the sata isnt faster than writing it on the ssd -
I would find it rather strange if you HDD would be faster at writing files than your SSD drive. -
lol every article i read about ssd told me that writing speeds on ssd´s is slower than on sata´s
still need someone to tell me how big the temp files are which winrar makes/moves at appdata/local/temp. cannot rly test it :/ -
Sata is a connection type - only way you can write "on sata" is to open up your laptp take a pen and scribble on the connector. -
ye well i meant on a sata hdd sorry
so not that anybody things about IDE
@edit: okay from what i tested it seems like all the files are getting moved from the .rar into the temp folder, and then to the destination folder.
which means i copy from D: to C: and then again to D:
guess i will create a temp folder on the D: then.. or wont that increase performance at all? And what about lifetime ?
thanks
