Hey I've got a really interesting problem with my Acer1410 running the latest Windows7 64 bit. When it's on, I press the power button or click the Windows icon and "shut down" buttons and it will just restart the machine. I have to do a hard shutdown each time.

Now when it's off, the power button won't start it up. I have to unplug the power cord, pull the battery, then put the battery back in. When I do that it will start up.

I've tried running the diagnostics that come with the Windows 7 cd, but it says there's nothing wrong. Any thoughts?

did it *ever* work as expected/required?

    bios up to date?

    device drivers up to date?

    disable sleep and hibernation

in your event viewer, any red flags on startup and shutdown?

in your power plan, reset things to default

Sounds like a physical problem with the button itself, maybe some gunk underneath it is preventing it from making contact. Unless you can trace it back to a single event (bios update, reinstallation of windows, etc) I doubt it's software related.

Same thing happened to the volume buttons on my antique Dell Latitude.

No it's not a physical problem as the button works just fine when it's on. I've had this thing a couple of years so it did work fine until the past couple of months. I'll have to check the event viewer and try resetting the power plan.

    Thanks for the input.

Not sure if this will help, might be worth a read, seems some people may have resolved issues relating to this event, whether it's the same problem as yours I don't know:

Update all your drivers also check this out,,driver still installed after the main program was uninstalled causes this error(can use ccleaner to see what drivers start at boot up,,, tools-> startup tab , can disable the drivers(temporarily or permanent) there to find out if the problem is in the startup menu of drivers, or research the entries to see if you use them still with a program in use, if startup item is not associated with a program in use can use ccleaner to delete it starting up), :)

Error Service Control Manager Event ID 7026 - HTFC Forums

Can run autoruns to find the culprit, deeper look into startup.

    Autoruns for Windows

    Cheers
