You could try msconfig on the startup tab. It is a list of all programs that start with Windows. Turn off the ones you don't like.

If you want to remove some of the startup items, better do it from regedit (actually the best way is to do it from the programs themselves). The easiest way is to run regedit, in the find box write "runonce". When it finds you the runonce string look in it, the string RUN just above it, and the one just below it RUNONCEX. there you will find all of your startup stuff.

I think that the startup folder and the "Run" section in the registry are different, i.e. what appears in the startup folder, doesn't appear in the registry.

hm, yes, you're right. My mistake;probably because I never put anything there /except for Kaspersky anti-hacker, which btw does appear in the registry!/. Anyway, the registry gives you info you cannot find in the startup folder and unlike the msconfig allows you to edit it /btw I was surprized to find the msconfig in XPsp2 in the PCHealth folder; I believe it used to be in the system folder in Win98/
