I'm always wondering, why is PPC/PDA start up time is instantly. Just as soon as I press the power button, it was up and running, ready to work. And also when turn it off, it will turn off right the second I pressed the power button.

Why laptop or Desktop PC cannot do that (or there's something like this outhere?).
I know Windows for PC is more complex and sophisticated than Windows Mobile, but the processor, RAM and everything is superior, right?
If the answer is because of the OS of PPC in installed on somekind of faster storage memory instead of harddrive, why can't PC do the same thing? Is this storage memory on PPC is faster than SSD?

    well, so many questions.. :D

    thanks..

Because a PDA doesn't actually turn off. It just goes into sleep mode. :)
When you "close" an application on your PDA, it isn't closed. It's just minimized. But it's still in RAM, and the next time you click on the app, it jumps up instantly, ready to resume.
And for the same reason, when you "power off" your PDA, it doesn't have to wait for all applications to close (like Windows would have to do). Instead, it just minimizes all applications, and goes into sleep mode.

I see. So PPC is never actually turned off. That explains all the apps that were running when I shut it down, are still running when I turned it on.
and is this method the same as 'sleep mode' or 'hibernate' in PC?

Hibernation/Sleep on a PC is the same. Although, as the PC is much more complex and sophisticated, the actual wake up process usually takes longer and is more prone to failure.

yeah, that's right. with my laptop sometimes I just close the lid and leave it like that. and couple of times when I want to use it, it's just freezes, the power was on but nothing on screen and I ended up turning it off and on again.. :p
