I fresh installed Windows 7 on a T61P, and I've noticed after some time using it, the computer becomes terribly slow, even with a SSD. I find through the resource manager, that svchost (netsvs) is eating 50% of the CPU power and 50% of my RAM. Why? How do I stop this from happening aside from manually killing it every time I find the computer becoming slow?
-
It's a host process. Some other process is actually using it.
50% CPU on a dualcore machine means one core is maxed out.

It could be something as trivial as Windows update trying to do it's thing. Try Process Explorer.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Are you sure your system is clean? as in no virus?
Try to run MBAM and see if it finds anything fishy. -
Its a brand new installation and my sophos AV found nothing.

When I had Windows 7, there was one update that I installed that fixed high CPU usage.
For now, disable the Windows Update service and tell me if the CPU usage is high for testing only or...... install this.......
This update contains some improvements to Windows Update Client in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This includes the following:
- An optimization that addresses long scan time for updates that's reported on some computers.

told ya!
install those updates then reboot and lemme know if it fixes your issueinm8#2 likes this. -
It's hanging on "searching for updates on this computer" and never gets past that
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
did you install those updates and reboot?
My bad, this is the one you need to fix that slow updates issue:
KB3102810 -
Installed all 3 of those updates and rebooted, lets see what happens...
EDIT: Well now it is TrustedInstaller that is eating up all the resources... -

ok now that we've fixed the slow updates issue, let's try to run all the updates minus the bad ones found here: Windows7/8 - Updates to hide to prevent Windows 10 Upgrade / Disable Telemetry
then reboot -
The image i'm using is SP1 + integrated convenience roll up package released not too long ago (like the SP2 but not really SP2 package)
I'm still trying to get windows update to pull up any sort of update, it just sits there "searching"
EDIT: Also, your simplex DDL link is dead in that thread. New one:

Just ignore it and use your computer normally, it will finish one day. This is one of the reasons I gave up on Windows 7. I want to have the latest updates and security patches and I don't have the patience to baby sit those updates and hide many updates all the time so I switched to Wiundows 10 and learned how to tweak it to my liking.
-
Still not a fan of Windows 10, but will eventually have to stop when the security patches stop coming for Windows 7.
well it's finally done finding updates...now to wait to download and install of them. Will just leave the computer running overnight.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

After that, the High CPU usage should come to an end

I expect that as well. Believe it or not, I strongly believe this T61P has the best keyboard of any laptop ever made, and I've used a lot of different computers. This thing is a joy to type on.

exactly the opposite to what I have, I keep cursing this keyboard every time I type on it:
Clevo makes the worst laptop keyboard EVER!
PS: what's a T61P, image pls -
Old Thinkpad from 2008, I picked one up for typing up documentation at work because I couldn't stand the keyboard on the HP "elitebook" or the absolutley garbage new 2016 macbook "pro"
This T61P is old, the opposite of the speed demon P870DM3 you have, but when it comes to typing, it is pretty much the best. Even Notebookcheck gave the keyboard a 98%, it is simply the best out there. The keys have excellent travel, the keyboard is firm without flex throughout, and it isn't that awful chiclet style. :

Give it a SSD, undervolt the CPU and GPU, give a 9 cell battery, and it's a great work computer if all you do is typing up documents and spreadsheets.
PS: Nvidiots volted the GPU on this thing to 1.15V.....no wonder it was bouncing off thermal throttle at 90C. With undervolt to 0.95V, much cooler and easier on the battery life. I also added proper ASPM so that it is not always running max clock/voltage.katalin_2003 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

sweet man! I like how each key is properly space out and has like a good 3D shape that makes it very easy to differentiate one key from the other.
When I typed on a MacBook Air 13 last year, I thought they keyboard was way better than my current pile of garbage keyboard. I felt the keys also had good travel distance between them that made me easily feel/tell what key I am pressing unlike on this keyboard on the P870DM/DM3 where they feel like they are all one big large key.
I wasn't aware that the new MacBooks had any bad keyboard issues. Maybe because I'm comparing to what I have the Macbook Air 13" seemed great -
They new macbook 12" and new macbook "pro" are too thin that they have severely compromised the keyboard. They have been reduced to toys now.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.
