My Synaptics Pointing Device driver has been corrupted. The program is corrupted, does not start up or work at all; the folder is corrupted, can't be manually deleted; uninstalling does not work either, "could not find synISdll.dll" the error message given. I can't reinstall either because the program can't install without having the previous version uninstalled first.

I don't think it's an OS or computer problem, but FWIW I have an Asus F50S with 32bit Vista. My touchpad still works but advanced functions like programmed tap-zones and scrolling are disabled.

Windows is detecting my touchpad as a ps/2 plugged in mouse, using the driver for the same. I don't think that's normal, is it?

    What is going on? Thanks.

Have you tried running an AV and AS? I suggest Malware Bytes. Also, I understand you can use a unlocker to delete corrupted files.
