i have a desktop and a laptop, i am constantly adding music to my itunes folder, schoolwork into my documents and images and other information into other folders on my desktop. but the last thing i need it to get to school with my laptop remebering my eassy is on my desktop!
i need a simple syncronising program that works over a network, i would prefer it to be free ;-)

    thanks

Windows xp Pro and 2000 have the functionality of "offline files." With this enabled your computer will sync files of your choice as soon as you plug into the network, no initiation needed. I use it and it works great.

The way it works for me:
My desktop has windows 2000 pro.
On my desktop computer I have mapped a network drive to the "my documents" folder on my laptop. I then right clicked the mapped drive and choose "enable offline files."
With this setup, every time I turn on my laptop, my desktop detects the connection and starts syncing all changes to the "my documents" folder.

In your case it would need to be just the opposite. You want your laptop to sync changes made on the desktop. Therefore your laptop will need to have windows xp pro or win 2k for this method to work.
