I am trying to get into some website design, taking baby steps.

I would like your opinions though, what is easier for you to read

dark text on light background (black text on white)

    or

light text on dark background (white text on black)

I personally prefer dark text and a light background as the alternative gives me headaches if I have to read a lot although I see blackish backgrounds seem to be popular

I go with dark text on a light background too.

The problem is that the darker mass will in a way hold your attention.

It also depends what you want to do though.
Here's a website by one of my friends:
    (German though)
    http://www.jb-electronics.de/

In a way it does make good reading, but normally the more familiar style is easier to read. Also - if you see black text on white, you immediately recognize it - your used to it.

I suppose it'll end up similarly to wlaking - its only easy for you because you've done it all your day. Robots have difficulties walking - and slowly manage nowadays.

Then again - black text on a light background will seem conservative.
If you have a "colour mixture" you may be seen as a slight "rebel" - so it depends on the audience too.
Some people will respond better to that...

Light text on a dark background is easier to read for me. It's not the "cleanest" or most aesthetically pleasing though.

    As maddox once put it...
