When I was browsing the photos with windows explorer it's generally very fast, but sometimes it takes a while to load all the files and the green bar moved slowly.

Even the thumbnails are loaded, the green bar might appear after 1/2 sec and moved slowly..

that's that thing? can I get rid of it and make the computer faster?

My config is a Dell Vostro 14o0 withC2D CPU with 2G Ram no way it's not enought right?

No matter how powerful your PC it's your HD speed that matters the most. I'm guessing you have a regular 7200 RPM HD like everyone else right?

Well when vista need to get that file your CPU helps, your RAM helps, but your HD needs to tell vista what the icon looks like, and what it's thumbnail is, etc. It takes time, and speed. Also vista is slow because it was programmed with errors, but it also depends how many files you files you have in there.

I get it and i have a fast PC but i have to live with it, and you can probably get rid of it with a registry hack but that will make it seem slower because you don't have a green bar to watch to take your mind off your wait.

All i can say is you have to live with it, but that's just as far as i know. =\

if you have a 80/120 5400 rpm, it's slow. 160GB + will be faster (especially 250GB, wich is as fast as a 7200 rpm).

I've never experianced this outside of network files though

Thats strange that it takes a while to load sometimes...I've seen that green bar load, but its not slow...and I think my HDD's speed is 4200RPM (200GB)...

it's a samsung SATA 5400rpm 8M 120G HD with Vista business, it's slower than my 2 old laptop which's got slower HD with WinXP.

So it's Vista makes it slow? :(

    Nah,

    Its not indexing.

    Its seeking.

In Vista the explorer tries to retrieve as much info abt the file as possible. ...also the DRM conspiracy theory..it tries to receive all type of info.
File size, File date of creation, modification, photo resolution, Video's frame rate also. etc etc.

    Hence, comp slows down...
To make the green bar faster... try disabling Thumbnails.

When was the last time you defragged your hard drive? I've found that some of the defrag programs actually make Vista slower at reading files. Especially if they've rearranged your hard drive a lot.

If you have indexing on, it might affect a bit but it should be fixed after some days
