    to deactivate or not

    I might need to have a motherboard change. My laptop has Win10 pro installed and I know Windows does system check to verify its still the same system. I am unsure though if it does a motherboard serial # check. So, if I had to replace the motherboard to the exact same model, would I have to deactivate my Windows 10 Pro and reactivate, or am I safe leaving it as is and will detect the same hardware and no activation/reactivation will be needed?

    So will the same O/S be installed is the first question? If so then you will have to verify it with MS Support to activate for the new install with new board. Anytime something like this happens you will have to verify with MS Support for them to activate the new install. But further question will have to referred to MS support since they are the owner and license hold for all Product Key and their Activiations.

    MS doesn't freely give out Product Keys once they are registered to a previous hardware configuration. You either have to use their Product Activation phone or Internet and if that doesn't work you have to call them.
