    trouble reformatting

    so long story short i tried to disable my soundcard to fix a bug not allowing me to play farcry 2 and turn on my onboard sound and it crashed my windows that wont start up anymore(windows xp 32 bit) when starting the computer it says

    "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \windows\system32\config\system

    i am actually trying to install my wifes vista 32bit because i cant find my original xp disc and want vista anyways.

    ummm what else to help anybody that can help me

    in bios i have the boot order set to boot from CD first then hard drive i dont have a floppy disc drive.

    please help me figure this out

    All you have to do is boot to the Vista disk. The installer takes over from there. Push ESC or one of the F-keys on boot. Usually F8/F10 or F12 if it's not ESC. Select device to boot to and choose your DVD drive.

    If you can boot upto disk

    they you can back up the exist config file

    and replace it with one from windows repair folder

    C:\windows\repair will hack back up file

    the one system use to boot will be C:\windows\system32\config folder



    also most time i see that error msg is cause by failed hard disk or bad sector I suggest you check hard disk with manfacters Hard disk Daig

    k i got to the boot menu but my keyboard doesn't work, it wont let me use the arrow keys (or any keys for that matter) down to cdrom

    what specs machine and type of hard disk?
