i have a bit of a problem here. i cant seem to change my account picture. whatever i choose shows up white. any ideas?
-
What version of windows, what is the size of the picture, file type, etc?
-
i have windows vista home premium 32-bit. i have used pics that range from 10kb to 3mb. i could have done this with any size file. all my pics are jpeg.
-
You can try to save your picture in bitmap format(128 x 128 resolution) and move it to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.
-
that worked! thanks niGht kiD. now to get rid of those bland default pics. a side note is that the images must be placed in the default pics folder for them to be used. although they dont appear in the little window in the start menu.
-
You can also direct where the pictures are thru the browse menu and choosing the directory that it's in.
-
-
after messing around with it some more i have come to the fact that the problem still exists. at first it seems to work but after i exit that window it turns white. i even changed the file name to usertile and a number but to no avail. what else can i do?
-
I'm glad to help
-
the sizes of the files that i put in are as follows from large to small:
2.25mb
1.75mb
1.02mb
644kb
290kb -
So now you have a white user account picture in your start menu? Have you tried a restart?
-
just restarted...still nothing. but since i put a password back on my account the image appears at the log on screen. start menu is still the same.
-
Does it happen to any other image? All I can think of is the image isn't cropped properly to fit the user display box. Sorry
-
all of the defaults work. its just mine that dont work. i never had this problem before.
-
i stand corrected. now the defaults dont work. what now?
-
Have you tried changing your theme to something else, then back?
-
i have cycled thru three custom themes that i downloaded and nothing.
-
Now how about we try a standard unmodified Vista theme without using any skinning software/modified system files. That's probably the cause of this, you should have specified you were running custom themes. I'd go to the wincustomize forums, or wherever you got those themes. -
Or try creating a new user account to check if the problem persists.
-
on a new user account the picture is there. but if i delete my admin account will i lose everything? not having a picture doesnt bother me but i would like to have one.
-
Check this, How to Delete a User Account in .Vista
-
well accordiing to that i cant delete the default admin account. that is the account with the picture problems.
-
He means the built-in admin account, which is different to the default admin account. You can create another admin account and delete the default admin account(remember to Keep Files when deleting).
