Hey everyone,
I am just about to try a clean install of Windows Ultimate upgraded from the OEM Home premium Dell installed. I ordered the 'Anytime Upgrade' from Microsoft in 32 bit. I think I want 64 bit, since my 1530 has 4 gig of ram. Will there be any problems I should expect by doing this, or is this not possible? Can I do a 'clean install' from an 'Anytime Upgrade'? I need answers! Thanks in advance.

If you have a license key for Ultimate, you can install either 32 or 64-bit. You will just need a Vista Ultimate 64-bit disk to do the clean install with. I did this with a 1720 and got everything to work (drivers are on Dell's site and elsewhere, but you have to go look) except for some of the Dell Utilities - but they may be available too, I just did not look.

Heads up for the backlash here Randy which will be pretty amusing. Do a search on "64 Bit" and all will be at your feet my friend. Your exact questions are asked atleast weekly and, in fact, I answered them for another in the last day.
I am thinking we should find an x64 Team member who wants to put a good thread together which can be stickied with the flood of interest lately. -
The x64 team was created to help fixing such issues, therefore we are here to help, right Les?
As for drivers, I told one of my friends that has a Dell to download the drivers from the Latitude or Precision downloads. -
drivers are available on dell.com x-drivers.com and graphics from laptopvideo2go.com for 64bit and Nvidia graphics.

However, there is a trick to do this, which you can read about here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgrade_clean.asp
Also, you cannot "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit. "Upgrade" is defined as the ability to install a different Vista version while keeping any already installed programs working. To go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you will have to reinstall all of your programs.
upgrade from Home premium 32 bit to 64 Ultimate Vista?
