Hi, I used avg to find a virus that changed my start up page. I couldn't delete it but had to move it into the vault. After that, when I tried to open internet explorer and type in an URL, the virus came back. I've tried to run test several times, same result. HELP!

    Hi txp135,
what you have is not a virus, so most anit-virus software won't find it. BTW, what AV software do you use?
What you got was a browser hijacker.
    Go to
    http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-150.shtml

and download the program cwshredder and run it, it will take care of the most common browser hijacker "cool web search".

You will want to also download "adaware" from
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
It will help get rid of adware and it's free.

Have you upgraded to SP2 for XP? If not do so right away.
If you don't have XP and have windows 2000 or win 98 then you will want to get rid of the microsoft java virtual machine, it is a big security hole and the main reason browser hijack happen.

Here is the link to the instructions to uninstall it, afterwards you can install the Sun Java virtual machine which works much better and does not have the holes in it; there's a link to it at the end of the uninstall instructions.
