    Hi,

I'll probably be upgrading from Windows Vista 32-bit home premium to Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise as my workplace has a bulk license.

I have an Asus M51sn-X2 that came with 4GB of ram installed but only a 32-bit OS.

I'll have to do a fresh install, but what 64-bit drivers should I get in advance?
Drivers for the DVD-RW and HDD are usually microsoft drivers that are automatically installed by Windows, but which ones are not?
I already found vista 64-bit drivers for my webcam, videocard, and WiFi.

So do I need drivers for my LAN adapter, sound, touchpad, or anything else?

    Thanks a lot.

Yes, you need for every device a Win 7x64 or Vista x64 driver.

Graphics Card, Lan, WLan, Sound, Touchpad, Webcam, Fingerprint reader, Card reader, special tools from ASUS for the hotkeys and other features your notebook has.

You also need 64bit drivers for your printer, scanner, if you use a special mouse software.

Just search for a 64bit driver for every device you have. If you don't find one, check if Windows has one or try the latest 32bit driver.

32-bit drivers doesn't work under any 64-bit Windows. If it works then it's not a driver but a software.

Windows 7 is pretty good about having drivers for almost all hardware. The absolutely most important drivers to have are your graphics drivers and your network/wireless drivers. Anything past that, and you can get online from inside Windows 7 and try to find the drivers for whatever isn't working.

Hi, i have a similar question: i want to update my win7 32 to win7 64bit. Asus doesn't provide any support or downloads for 64bit drivers for my model notebook (Z99Sc, i heard comparable with the A8sc, for which there is actually a Vista64 driver download section). Is there a way to identify all the different types of hardware easily (utility or something), which will create an overview so I can just search on the specific device type including "AND 64 bit driver"?

Or should I just install Win7 64bit and see how it will work?

64-bit is becoming mainstream, as many OEM's offer the 64-bit OS as standard. So you can easily get drivers for your notebook. Contact Asus for 64-bit Win 7 driver support for your notebook.

I have a slightly different opinion.
Windows 7 have the Wireless Driver on its own. So, we don't need to install the Wireless Driver and we can reduce the Intel Wireless services from start-up.
About GPU Driver, of course we need to download it ourselves in order to get the BEST one. Don't forget about the Sound/Volume Driver as well. Grab the latest Driver from Realtek(if you're using realtek). ^^!

thanks coolguy for your reply. i already contacted them some time ago with that question and the replied:

I asked for Vista 64bit drivers, but they replied this to me in general... not very useful to me
