yeah.. i tried it with .wmv and .mpeg.... still nothing. Altho.. i believe it is actually running BEHIND the wallpaper i am using right now.. b/c i kind of see it through the taskbar since its semi-transparent.. so i can see movement behind the sidebar.
Do you know how to disable vista wallpaper? maybe if i turn off wallpaper... i can see the vlc video that is running behind.

Can't repost as it was locked then deleted, apparently DreamScene is against the forum rules if it was on a non Ultimate version of Vista :(

But I can tell you that it's wroking 100%, better than this stupid VLC method which didn't work for me by the way. Never could find the wallpaper option although I followed the steps carefully.

    u did try this?

"If you do not see the wallpaper option then proceed to:
    Settings > Preferences > Video > Output Modules > Direct X.
Once you get here, check the Advanced Options box in the bottom right hand corner.
The advanced options will appear. Check Enable Wallpaper Mode. Now when you right click on your videos, you should be able to see a Wallpaper option."

    restart VLC after change

    cheers ...

Yup, thanks for your concern, but I tried alot! and like I said I followed the steps carefully so I didn't miss that step. Someone told me it's coz VLC is not 100% compatible with Vista. Dunno.....

So only after trying so hard, did I processd to the DreamScene hack solution.

It didn't work the first 3 tries. That was when I used the batch file to do it automatically. then after 3 months, which is now, I tried doing it manually step by step. and it worked!

    DreamScene /FTW

sorry to read that u r having issue with the VLC - wallpaper option. I currently use this VLC-Dreamscene under Vista and XP with no known issue.

At least u found a solution for ur environment

100% compatibility with vista: wow, i'd be happy if all apps can claim that. Anyway, VLC performs well under my Vista, i use the KLite codec packs.

    cheers ...

just one more shot, this was posted in #17
    . settings->preferences->video->output modules = DirectX video Output

. settings->preferences->interface->main interfaces->wxWidgets (checked "embed video in interface", "Size to video", Playlistview =normal)

. settings->preferences->playlist-> checked "repeat current item", "automatically preparse files"

    cheers ...
