well when i first got my computer, about 3 weeks ago, the startup time was super fast. i have a toshiba x300/305
when i get passed the vista logo, and when the wallpaper comes up, it says please wait. before, "please wait" only stayed on for about 3 seconds, before it showed my login screen.
now, "please wait" stays on the screen for about 1 minute, and it can get annoying.
the only thing that i thought it was was all of the programs that i had installed. i also removed all bootup programs, but it didnt make a difference.
i went from about 300GB of free space to about 145GB in about a week.
so im just wondering why it takes forever to load, and if there is a way to fix this with any programs, etc. i dont want to system restore.
someone also said something about the registry, could that cause a problem?

Clear all but your recent restore point using disk cleanup.(That's probably what consuming all your GB space if you're wondering.)
Defrag your bootfiles.
Clean your registry with Ccleaner.
Also, it's normal for your pc to get slower once you add all your programs and whatnot. -

Well, I would try running a disk defragment followed with the boot file defrag and optimization, defragbootfiles.bat (Gary made this, can be found in the Vista Tips n Tweaks Sticky thread) and restart the system. Use CCleaner to clean up as well... and also, finally, check out the wonderful Vista Tips n Tweaks Sticky, fully... lots of things you could out there
As for the space, its system restore most probably, unless you got yourself some huge programs to install.
You can clean it up though. Disk cleanup > more options > delete all but the most recent restore point and it should give you back lots of space. See how it is then.
vista bootup time takes a long time now.
