Hi, i decided to run the disc defragmenter tool on my dell m1330 this afternoon and when i opened up the program it says that the computer defrags automatically...
it also says the last scheduled defrag was last wednesday at 1am...

the problem is my laptop was switched off on wednesday 1am...

did it really defrag secretly when i was sleeping or is it an error?

    cheers

    Hi.

if your computer was switched on at 1am it would have been defraged it, but it was not switched on so it did not defrag it.

I think it`s meant for computer that are on 24/7

    Regards

    John.

try using auslogics disk defragmenter because it works much better than vista's built in defragmenter and it shows you a live visual status of your drive while it defragments (plus its FREE!!!!)

    Hi.

don't use auslogics, it may be nice to look at, but that is all, it`s crap

I have tried all the free ones.

use JkDefrag the best free defrag program available, it also has a option to defrag your registry

    regards

    John.

    Hi.

it`s really fast and it leaves files all over the place, it just does a fast skim of the hdd, just try the one i linked, you will see the difference.

    Regards

    John.

Yes JK defrag will THOROULY clean your drive...

But Since it takes quite some time to finish you can use Auslogics for fast deffragging.

Use JK every week for best results

and Auslogics whenever you feel like it.

Diskkeeper is supposed to be good as well, or so I read in Hacking Windows Vista by Steve Sinchak.

    Auslogics defrags but doesn't compact.

I used to use third party defraggers then i figured Vista itself should be able to sort out and manage its own file systems better

agreed with the previous posts. auslogics defrag is way to fast and hardly does anything. i use jkdefrag and my windows live one care tune up defrags too every week.

The Defrag tool built into Vista is actually quite good. Nevertheless, I bought Raxco Perfect Disk 2008.

    Yahmun. It's a pretty good antivirus...low on resources. ;)
Also it backs up my files and stuff on schedule.
