    hello.

my laptop came loaded w vista prem 64bit. its has 4gb ram and is fast and stable. however, it also has a lot of factory crap on it... i like my installs to be fresh. (dont all nerds?)

problem is, laptop did not come with vista disc. all i can do is make an exact copy of what i got now. :(

BUT i do have a copy of vista ultimate 32bit! Q is... should i use it? i know it wont see all 4 gigs of ram and im worried ill miss the extra speed boost. otoh, if i go w/Ultimate i will have a fresh install, be able to partition the way i want, and it clears up some gaming/video problems specifically with 64bit os/video drivers not showing cinematics in Warcraft 3

    tia!

If you currently know that you have a problem with a 64bit OS and drivers, and have tried the latest available drivers but that doesn't fix it...

I'd say move to 32bit Ultimate.

Or use the link that kasim posted... :D

My Gateway T-6836(4gb ram) came with Vista HP x64 and it the only laptop I ever had that I didn't do a fresh reinstall yet. I only resized to make other partitions. First thing I did was get rid of all the trial apps and games, then I used CCleaner to clean out the registry. Never had any problems since, not even a slight freeze up.

But like Greg mentioned, if it's a matter of driver problems with gaming or such, then go with the 32bit. Otherwise it's a unnecessary downgrade.

can anyone tell me where i might find the installation media for vista on my hard drive? i know my laptop didnt come with a disc. so im betting the files are on the hd somewhere, just not sure where to look...

or maybe i can search by file name? -- i have an acer aspire if that helps.

    thanks!
