i bought an hp dv5 wich licesened vista home premium in it (32 bit), but not on a CD, i understood thats its like it is in the notebook's data base, everytime i want to format my computer or reinstaill windows i do a system restore
my question is, can i upgrade from licenced vista home premium to windows 7 for free? cause i mostly use pirated windows versions, but i dont like the ideea to switch to a non-licensed windos, and not beeing able to take updates from microsoft, it rocks, so id rather stay on vista and make an upgrade to home premium ultimate

If you're a student with a .edu email address, you can purchase it for $30. Otherwise, it's $119.
