i love how vista solves all my problems. when i double clicked the icon for my freshly installed game, it said that it wasnt installed properly and that vista had applied something something and that if it doesnt work the next time u double click it, reinstall it. well, i didnt have to reinstall it! YAY. and that windows live thing is very cool. the live writer is so easy to use and makes it so simple to update. i wont be going back to xanga...

yeah, vista is much easier to use than XP. Love the simplicity and search function. Only drawback is you lose a few frames in games.

It's ok. Windows 7 will eat Vista alive though.

Well, it takes about 6 clicks to connect to a wireless network as opposed to 2 in XP, so that's kind of a downside, and it's certainly harder to limit System Restore space.

OHHHHHHHHHH I CANT WAIT! or will Microsoft make me?

yes. i love it, but yes, its not perfect. certain things can become very irritating.
like how there isnt an option for the type of speakers i have! sometimes i want a mono signal, if im simply running off one passive speaker. but all i cann configure is stereo.

Nothing's perfect... but Vista is STILL reletively new, and yet so much better. All I know is XP's been around since what 2000?! I dunno.. but when it DID come out it was worse than Vista was when it came out, and had received a lot more criticism. Vista on the other hand, is doing far better! Microsoft is bettering it's OS'es version by version, service pack by service pack. And as far as any user should care, windows IS getting only better, not worse ;)

Yeah, it's not too bad. But the Windows Updates kept BSODing me, so I had to re-install multiple times.

    But it's all good.

Vista can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Especially when it decides to install an update without asking me when I'm supposed to be getting back to OS X for class.

Random BSODs aren't very welcome either.

But meh, it's no XP, and it's nowhere near amazing, and can get quite annoying at times when it asks me if I'm sure I want to open freakin' FRAPS every time.

I kind of wish I put XP on my system instead of Vista, and my Inspiron didn't even have an option for XP... so I got stuck with Vista on that too.

Have to give them credit for trying to make it look so darn pretty though... Now only if they can somehow make it perform better.

Yes, but his signature says he has a MBP, so he's probably using BootCamp to run Vista on his MBP.

It is. But... *stares at own sig* I own a Mac :|

Maybe the mention of my Inspiron (my brothers actually, but it's pretty much mine since he never uses it :p) could have led to a misunderstanding? I have Vista on both the MBP and Inspiron is what a meant.

Disable User Account Control if you don't like to verify your programs to run or not. Simply edit when you want updates to install. And whats "BSODs"

open control panel, switch to classic view, click on User Accounts, and Turn User Account Control On or Off.

    And,

start, all programs, windows update. on the left side click change settings.

and BSOD = what caused the BSOD, what error message did it give?

    thanks for the info.

I get them sometimes when I start into windows, and then it does it and restarts my computer saying "Windows has failed to start" and asks me if I want to boot into safe mode. I also got them when I played Gears of War, but didn't read it since it restarted my computer real quick. It's actually not a very common thing, actually very uncommon, but it's one of those things, that when it happens you really get angry at it :p I need to try reinstalling Vista before i completely condemn it though.

By all means it's not a BAD OS. There's a lot of haters and such, but it's really not bad, and certainly shouldn't be put down so much as it is. However... I think beyond all the pretty window effects, it's really not as good or as smooth as XP was. Those few FPS I lose on my Mac aren't really a problem since my GPU can easily still make up for it, but I'd really like them to be a tad higher on the Inspiron with the 8400m GS. The time it takes for the Welcome window to pop up on the Inspiron isn't as quick as I think it should be.

I'm still kind of on the fence about it. It's not horrible, but it's not as good as it should have been either. It's pretty and all, but it hasn't impressed me at all yet.

Well as for your slow startup. Click start>type "msconfig" in search>startup tab>uncheck things you don't need/want to start up. should speed up the process a bit.

I play a lot of CoD4 multiplayer. Used to play Gears until I threw it into a bonfire for being a waste of $50. Couldn't even complete it because of the constant crashing at 1 specific spot.

Also have FFVII,VIII, and Halo, but those all get weird graphical glitches in Vista.
