I have vista ultimate 32bit installed on my computer and have been having problems with my log in screen for the last couple of days (ever since I downloaded the last updates - could be a coincidence, though).
I'm the only user (and administrator, of course) of my computer, so there should be only one name on the log in screen (guest is deactivated, asp. machine does not show). technically there is only one name, but it's doubled. the accounts are the same, the passwords are the same and when i access any of them I get the same desktop, settings, files an so on. The accounts are identical - like having two doors to the same room (thougt it was a good metaphore, considering we're disccusing windows).
when I access the control panel --> user accounts there's only one account.
what I want is get rid of one door. the problem is purely aesthetic, but unnerving nevertheless.

Perhaps you can do a Windows system restore and see what happens?

I solved the problem. i used the "control userpasswords2" trick to bypass the log in screen, so I wouldn't have to see my name twice on it. But as soon as I did it one of the "accounts" magicaly disappeared. so I changed it back and now things are back to normal.
