hey everyone im partitioning a 500gb hd on my laptop using vista 64. I will have three partitions...one for OS and programs....one for games....and one for storage. However all three partitions say primary....shouldnt the first partition say primary, the second say secondary, etc. Or are all three partitions going to say primary?

here is a pic of my setup, is it correct?

It has to do with the type of partition it is. There are two types of partitions, primary and extended. if you want to know more, a simple google search, but here is the wikipedia link which does give a very brief overview:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_partitioning

and i just noticed that you have the OS labeled as drive A? why not C? and you can tell which has your OS on it by if it says "Active" or not.

I personally stay away from some drive labels - A: is one of them! Many apps would take that as floppy drive.

    cheers ...

All of your partitions are primary partitions; only one is the boot partition. But I second the label suggestion. A: and B: can cause problems as they used to be reserved for floppy drives.

Do NOT change the drive letter for the system partition. You will regret doing that since some installer apps are too stupid to understand that the system drive is anywhere except C. You are just asking for trouble by doing this.
