hey. I own a Sony Vaio SR190 notebook. The Specs are

2.53 ghz 6mb cache montevina processor
    2 gigs of ram
    250 gb 5400 rpm hdd
    ati 3470 discrete graphics
    windows vista home premium
    anything else missing?

I seem to be having a "slow" bootup even after following the NBR vista tips for optimization. This is what i did

    1. Remove unnecessary startup items (the only ones i have are sound, catalyst control center, synaptics, fingerprint reader, vaio mode switch, avira antivir, comodo firewall, and windows aero is enabled).

    2. Go to services.msc and set to manual a bunch of the services like the computer browser and workstation (i can't list them all because i forgot the names of a lot of them)

    3. Follow the rest of the steps in the NBR guide.

Right now, it takes about 50 seconds to get to the welcome screen. Then it stays at the welcome screen for about 30 seconds. After that, it takes about 20-30 seconds at the desktop for things to load and not lag.

Is this normal? and does anyone know why the welcome screen is there for so long and how to fix that?

I'm running wifi/bluetooth, so i dunno if that has to do with the welcome screen?

    Thanks.

It's a little long for that machine

It is sitting at the welcome screen because it is at that point that windows is loading your local profile.

Out of curiousity, go to control panel, user accounts, create a temp profile

reboot. Windows will stop at the welcome screen this time because there will now be two profiles. choose the newly created one.

    How quickly does that load?

Probably pretty darn quick in comparison.

Honestly, while your's is a little long, people are obsessed with start up speeds. I wouldn't get overly freaked out about it if it is under two minutes.

I am willing to bet you have a ton of files on your desktop (in folders) or your profile has a ton of music / pictures / downloads.

All of that stuff will add some time to a profile load. Your antivirus and firewall and catalyst control center will also add time to your system load once your desktop shows up.

Should they? Not in an ideal world...but there's a lot of things going on with these programs
