Hi everyone.
ive just done a system restore on my old fujitsu as a software update was bad. its now been running for almost an hour with the message "please wait while your windows files and settings are being restored system restore is initializing"
its never been this long to do a restore before.
how much damage could i cause if i just turn it off to re boot it. the blue circle is still revolving but i think its frozen for some reason.
thanks

almost 1 hour 50 minutes and it came back with an unexpected error and was unable to complete.
panic over, ill just leave it as it is.
ill just use my np8660 for now -
It depends on how far back you were going....I did a system restore and it took an hour just restoring from yesterday.
Vista system restore recovers a lot more info than xp and takes longer. 2 hours is pretty long, though -
thanks for the info gerry
yep it was atempting to restore back to yesterday as well but failed in the end.
its just ive never noticed it take that long before. -
Try running it from safe mode. Chances are it failed because you didn't run it from safe mode. Odd thing that, dunno why Vista doesn't like restoring from anything but safe mode but it has happened to me on numerous occasions.
Taking as long as 2hrs, not something I've experienced. -
I've never had a problem running from normal mode, but you may also consider running from your DVD if you have one.
If that still does not work, disable system restore, reboot, then re-enable and create a new restore point.
I had never had a system restore take longer than 20 minutes before today so I was surprised it took nearly an hour.
The most annoying thing is the message--it says system restore is initiating forever....you sit there thinking, "well, start already!" -
thanks for all the advice guys.
it was a strange one and thats why i posted it on here after it passed 1.5 hours i thought id ask advice.
its not a biggie as its now being used as a back up laptop. i might do a total re install one day.
thanks
