Not really...take the business edition, add a few games, and add the MCE stuff and that is Ultimate AFAIK.

If you don't use it, and if you have absolutely no use for it, then I guess it would fall under the "bloat" classification.

I personally don't see much bloat in Ultimate. I think Ultimate is just right IMO. Whatever bloat you speak of sure doesn't slow things down in Vista.

How is too much bloat? It is exactly like your version of Windows except it has more features that you can install, like MCE, extras and many more.

I personally prefer the Home Premium over all the other versions when it comes to price point.

Nah, because I like the MCE features. IF I were to use Vista full time, it would be to Home Premium, and just switch off Aero.

it is quite interesting to read and hear users complaining and excited about vista aero being bloated, graphic power hog etc ...

and then we have many dedicated threads to spicying up XP in its desktop looks ;-)

    cheers ...

Yeah, but some people would consider that bloat. So I guess the answer depends on whether you'd consider that to be bloat.

At a wild guess I'd say that they are different groups of people... ;)

i dont like all the vista stuff .in XP i even have my desktop set to "best performance" and hat means no fancy stuff just the gray bar and thats it !

dont know why everybody wants his xp to look so "cool" . i only use it to open the programs i need and thats it .
there for i want it to react fast when i want it to ,and use as little resources as possible

Some people like their OS to look different from the standard options -- that goes for both XP and Vista. Sure, lots of people like Aero, and then there are others who think it's hideous. It's only a matter of time before custom themes become available for Vista.

I just liked the extra battery life and performance disabling Aero gave me.

I agree. Seriously, use a computer for what it is for. Be productive. Don't start day dreaming and wasting time customizing the appearence of your machine. When it starts to flake, that is when you will prefer the preformance over the looks.

productivity over laziness, speedy over sluggish performance! :D :D

I don't care what you guys say... Ultimate is pretty. Why settle for blah all day if you can have something pretty all day. :)

It also depends on your computer. If you have a computer with quad core and more than 4GB ram, it just does not make much sense to use Windows XP or Vista Basic for saving resources and quick response time.

Yeah, but with a quad core and over 4gb ram, why not just run a server system and be completely stable? Unless you want to play games. In which case I don't know how well that server option's going to go for you ;)
