I have been browsing prior threads on upgrading versions of vista and wanted to pose a few questions to clear things in my mind.
i have a new HP 6690ej with vista home premium preloaded.
i am about to create the recovery DVD. (I presume it has at least some image of vista on it somewhere, I have not yet dug deep into the recovery partition (which on the HP is visible, as versus a prior IBM I had where it was invisible)
I see two folders with WAU on hard drive but they both seem to contain only a few small config files.
I have a legal copy of vista ultimate on DVD with legit serial.

1 - can I use the ultimate DVD to upgrade the vista home? how much by way of files left behind from upgrade will it leave behind on the hard drive, and can I eventually tank them?
2 - the recovery DVD will restore my system to factory new with vista home premium. is there a way to tweak that DVD so if I need to recover I can recover vista ultimate (yes, with all the HP "bloatware") without having to go thru the whole recovery then an upgrade?
3 - if I have the vista ultimate 64 bit DVD can I use it to upgrade from the 32 bit vista home directly or not?
4 - if not, similar to #2 - can I tweak the recovery DVD to recover directly to vista 64 ultimate?
5 - and if that not - can I somehow build a recovery DVD that would have vista 64 and the HP software (I do uninstall most of it later anyhow)? or could one be built that offers the option of choosing which of the HP software I want or dont want?

thanks in advance for thoughts and answers

    1. No. Ultimate will install Ultimate and won't accept a Premium key.
    2. No.
    3. Yes.
    4. No.
    5. I'm sure you could, but that would be a tremendous waste of time. You would be much better off clean installing.

    thanks for the quick reply
what I meant in the first question was can I use the ultimate CD and a legit ultimate key to uprgrade the factory installed home premium? and if it did upgrade how many extra files would it fill up the disk with?

You can probably do so, but try not to upgrade these stupid factory installations.
