i wana set up vnc on mostly xp desktops, maybe one vista... i looked around and i -think- i saw diff vnc programs?
question is which one should i get/is good?
thnx.
-
I only know this one http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html
However , for Vista I think there is a trial period.
Give it a go, if it works,I`m sure it`ll be worth the buy. -
are there any 100% free ones?
-
PM Calvin, he knows one I think.

You should use UltraVNC, it's currently the best program out there for VNC. There is a website that explains the setup process with great detail that i used but i can't seem to find it right now, if you decide to use it you can ask me for help until i find that website.

If you are looking to control only Windows PCs, you might want to check out Hamachi to make a VPN and then use Window's Remote Desktop Connection. Any Windows OS can be a client, but you would need XP Pro/MCE or Vista Business/Ultimate in order to be a 'server.'
-
That's what I'm afraid of, if I can remotely access my computer at home let's say, it means than other can too.

Lol,
However hackers only purpose in life is actually to get these passwords, ins't it! -
-
If you assign a password to your PC, and use Hamachi (which also has a password and uses an encrypted VPN connection) hackers will probably not get in. You can also set up Hamachi to deny new connections to your PC and/or your VPN, so chances are they won't even get a chance.

the servers will be on xp or vista, i'll be accessing via linux tho

Thank you for the links!

If Linux is involved in the mix, then you will have to use LogMeIn for cross-platform communication.

I can vouch for TightVNC for good interoperability.
