wPrime runs slower on Win 7 than on Vista

I have been running quite a lot of tests of wPrime on both vista and 7. To my shock, wPrime's performance on 7 is very disappointing. On average, it is 0.5-0.8 s slower than on Vista. I managed to get 28.7 on my T9600 with Steam downloading a game, Avira and Comodo in the background. On 7 however, with NOTHING in the background, I am struggling to break the 29 sec mark. If anyone has some free time and don't mind running wPrime on the 2 OSes, I would appreciate it!

My wPrime score in Win7 is .3-.5s faster than in Vista (~30s stock in vista and ~29.7s stock in win7) This is an average of 15 runs in each OS.

 

Interesting variance. I don't have an easy way to run wPrime in Vista on the same hardware else I'd contribute. I'll be interested in what you discover.

Still, that's what, a 1-2% difference. Does it make a difference in everyday tasks? I suppose in long compute-intensive simulations you may notice it (one minute per hour of cpu time), but other than that?

 

Here's what I have.

3dmark is about a 60 pts difference. Higher in 7
l4d seems so be slightly more smooth in 7
every task seems ever so slightly more smooth in 7. This could be because it is a no crapware installation. My vista is more loaded with stuff

but wprime is a 1 sec difference on average and is slower in 7...

 

Do you have Windows 7 Official?
Does wPrime says it's deigned to work for Windows 7?
Do you have the LATEST OFFCIAL optimized non-Beta/alpha drivers for ALL your hardware and devices of your computer?
Is your computer fits Windows 7 recommended system requirement

If one or more of the above questions are a "no", then your benchmarks means nothing.

I experienced this as well.
With Windows 7, I gain more FPS in real games and gain more points in 3Dmark06.
I think it is due to DX11 and Windows 7 have used less resources as well as BLOATWARE free.

 

Who cares about benchmarks? Honestly, they don't mean anything. I swear benchmarks make people get upset over the darndest little differences.

 

Brother, benchmark is needed to check the System Performance or Gaming Performance, especially for OCer.
Basically, higher benchmark will have better performance for real games.
However, there is exceptional of course.

 

It's actually more due to a reworking of the GDI lock between Vista and 7. The whole reason they did that is to make the experience smoother in the GUI.
