    If you really want to "do it right" you should do a clean install of your OS and go through one of those Vista/XP optimization guides (ie stopping services, etc). Stock drivers should be fine on the most part, but it's been shown that you can get performance boosts on Nvidia GPU's with Nvidia Forceware drivers.
