Hey guys I just ordered a new laptop and am currently waiting for it to arrive here are the specs:

    Clevo M860TU
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz - 1066MHz-FSB
    RAM: 4GB/4098MB DDR3 RAM
    HDD: 320GB 7200RPM
    ODD: DVD-Burner Dual Layer DVD+/-RW + CD-R/RW
    VIDEO: NVIDIA Go 9800M GTS 512MB DDR3

My question is what OS do you think I should put on it? I have windows XP pro and windows Vista business 64bit. I was never a great fan of vista but I hear it is getting better, am I right? and I hear something about XP not being about to support all the RAM so I need the 64bit vista to make fill use of 4GB could someone tell me if this is correct and explain it a little bit because im not really sure. I prefer XP for useability but will I get a lot more performance out of vista??
Anyway just some recommendations for what OS I should put on would be great!!!

    Thanks heaps for you help!!!

I'd go with Vista since your version is 64bit, therefore can fully utilize the full 4gb of ram. Vista has come a long way since launch and is MUCH stabler since the release of SP1. Unless you have specific programs that are only compatible with XP, then Vista would be your best choice.

XP with even 3.2GB of utilized RAM will probably outperform Vista 64-bit with 4GB utilized.... but marginal.

either choice should be fine.... as long as you optimized the OS to free up resource hogs.

I have dual boot for both, but mainly use XP since its faster and less bloaty... without the annoying UAC.

im not sure what the fuss of vista is all about... anyway, yes, vista SP1 is mature enough OS and the early major bug has been ironed out.

i think there is a number of reason why you should choose vista.

-you have powerful computer. i think infact vista might perform a bit better on your system (perceived system performance) compared to xp, because of vista better memmory management. in any case, the difference in performance is very minimal, considering the spec of your computer. if you've got netbook, then thats a different story.

-make use of 64-bit OS, will enable the OS to utilise full 4gb, in 32-bit you will probably see less than 3gb.

make sure the manufacturer of your device all create driver for 64-bit though. the 64-bit also has 32-bit software emulator, so that you can run software that is still design for 32-bit os, with almost no impact to performance.

-i think the difference in battery life is irrelevant (vista probably consumes a bit more) anyway seeing that your computer has powerful component. surely battery life is not on top of your priority when buying the notebook.

ah yes, the UAC is very annoying. you can easily diable that feature. in user account preference.

but why would you wanna do that? the UAC is designed to protect you, enabling UAC also enabled IE7 protected mode.

basically UAC also enabled virtual regisrty. so that if malware try to attack your computer, it attacked a decoy.

no need for UAC when Comodo does the same thing.... for free and trainable for trusted programs.

why would anyone use UAC? lol...... What a pain!!

I personally would rec Vista x64, but not particularly business. Try premium.... You have to think about Windows 7 coming out in a year or so and if you're already used to Vista, it will be a breeze to switch to 7, IMO.

Newer pc's are designed to run Vista very efficiently and eventually Windows 7 . And the x64 os do allow you to take advantage of 4GB memory and up, depending on the mobo. In fact, quite a few desktop mobo's already support 8GB of memory and up.....

i looked on the clevo website at the drivers and it only has drivers specified for xp and vista there is no mention of any 64 or 32 bits anywhere. how do i know if these drivers are 64 bit compaitable?

and can i run a 32 bit application without any trouble/proformance issues?
