This is what I use: Microsoft Anti-spyware, ZoneAlarm Firewall, AVG anti-virus, and Ad-Aware SE Personal. All of these programs are free. They haven't messed up my gaming expirience at all. When you first connect to the internet though it will ask you if you want to let so and so program access the internet. Just say yes and click remember this. Then it won't bug you any more. :)

I use Webroot SpySweeper, even though it's not free, it's not very expensive and it does the job perfectly for me. The system scan is a little slow though.

Zone Alarm Pro firewall here...but the free version is great too. I also use AdAware, McAfee Enterprise (university required...and paid for), and I guess ZA Pro has a decent built in Spyware Scan too.

The ZA Internet Security Suite is a top rated produt. I enjoy the OS firewall, because it makes you think twice before doing stupid things with programs or registry keys.

Theres no point in paying for software thats still good and is free. I have the same set-up as timu24 and it works great.

Watch out though, mcafee and norton may be more advertised but are serious system hogs. They will really slow your computer down wheres the free ones are less resource hungry.

I was using AVG and always had good results plus it was free.
Now I have converted to the new Kaspersky 6.0, It found 3 trojans that AVG missed.
    For free,AVG is very Good.
For pay, I like the new Kaspersky.

I recommend AntiVir PE Classic for antivirus. It's free and has better detection rates than AVG.
For spyware and adware, use Microsoft Defender (free) OR Webroot Spy Sweeper ($).

Is Windows firewall not sufficient? What's the advantage with the free ZA wall? I'm not really up on firewalls or their purpose.

Avast Pro, with Windows Firewall and my router's built in firewall.

Absolutely no problems here. Avast has built in script blockers and the whole lot of other things.

I don't like antispyware, because those tools themselves have a lot of junk with them. You don't need antispyware as long as you have something like Avast Pro blocking access to your computer.

    Cheers,
    Mike
