The fastest is to set your machine up to sleep/hibernate properly. You should be able to come back from that state in 10 seconds or so.
-
I second this opinion. Although 7 improves on Vista's rather slow boot times, the best way (and the way that developers intended) is to use the sleep function, while maintaining long system uptime.
However, in terms of general performance, the 64-bit version of Windows 7 should be the fastest. -
is there a way to fasten the boot proccess from 40sec to less?
my windows 7 x64 is clean install, not even with drivers, just installation on empty drive
the intel matrix drivers line\screen after the boot bar is necessary?
also, should i work at irrt or ahci? -
Buy a SSD.

40 seconds isn't slow. :|
-
Yepp - it isn't slow.
And are you going to gain anything from 1 or 2 seconds or even 10 seconds less?
My laptop takes about 2 minutes max I think - may be a bit less - on Vista Business 32Bit.
Another aspect of Windows 7 is potential problems - it is still a Release candidate - i.e. not necessarily perfect. -

ït is slow. 20-30sec here.. and win7 should be faster
(i'm on vista)

But what does and extra 20 seconds achieve?
I can't even pick my nose in 20 seconds. -

i can

what should i do? does the 32\64 affects?
to remove services from startup?
what are the differences for me at the os speed and functuallity at 32\64 with the core2duo proccessor?
what gives 64 than 32 doesnt for me with the e6400 with 7200rpm 250gb hd, 8400p, 2gb ram (for now), 160nvs? - and opposite?
what about "the intel matrix drivers line\screen after the boot bar is necessary?" ? -
At 2GB RAM I doubt you'd see any bnefits from 64Bit - unlss if you work on very large files, in that case you may.
I suppose at it's most basic - and not 100% correct - 64Bit is usefu for handling large files.
I.e. if you have a 1GB Photoshop file 64Bit would be better than 32Bit - on 20MB file you won't notice a difference. -

Take a look at the defrag boot files link in my signature line below. Many laptops never get the chance to do this even though the functionality is built into Vista and Win7 to do this automatically. The message at the other end of the link explains why and how to manually force it to happen. It can make a significant difference in boot time. Not always. But it is worth a shot. Although with SSD the benefits are considerably less, because you don't have the access time issues that defrag tries to mollify. So it may not be of any real benefit for you.

You can pick HIS nose in 20 seconds? Yuch!

is the x64 slower than the x86? does it really 2X at the memory usage at any app?
bottom line - staying with x64 or change to x86 for faster/less heavy memory usage? -
????
x86 = 32Bit
x64 = 64Bit
In data heavy tasks x64 will be faster than x32
In "normal use" you possibly won't see a difference.
64Bit does use more RAM than 32Bit but not twice as much. -
is it possible it made it to 50sec from 40sec? :\
-
now 25 after some boots
awesome! -

You should have seen the effects on the very first boot, unless there was a pending update or something that once in the "run once" list on that first boot. The defrag really won't make things any better after multiple boots. Any improvement attributable to it should occur immediately and remain constant until some new driver is added or updated or some app is added to the startup process or an existing one has changed.
But you are getting better boot times now so that's a GOOD thing.

what would be the fastest for me?
