hi all. been trying to find a solution for this. pretty weird. when i switch my account from an administrator to a limited user, everything changes. the theme changes, the wallpaper disappears, the programs i have running (avast, for one) disappear.
what is going on here? when i switch the account back to administrator- everything goes back to normal. what is up with that?

I'm pretty sure that those things need admin privileges to run so that's why they shutdown.

hmmm... i have had these processes work on other laptops (a 1520 i had and returned, for instance) as a limited user. avast, themes, wallpaper, and such work under a limited user account, i'm pretty sure of that. you can't change some things, but they will run. i went and changed the theme, in fact, in the limited user account and it worked. weird stuff. i wonder if it's a registry thing...
what really gets me is that it goes back to normal when i go back to an administrator account. i haven't found anyone with a solution to this one. -
Um, do you mean that you change the privileges of the currently logged in user, or that you log in as a limited user/administrator?

ok. should clarify here. apologies. when i switch an account (under user accounts in control panel- running xp pro) from an administrator to to a limited user account, when i reboot or log back in to that same account- a bunch of things are different. the theme, the wallpaper, the programs that are running (avast, spybot, keylogger are no longer running)... this happens with both administrative accounts i have on this computer, not just the one.
if i then go and change that same account back to an administrator account- pow, back to normal. ??? this isn't some weird vista thing, it's in xp. which kind of surprises me. i have used xp limited accounts before and they work fine, my girlfriend's computer, for instance, has avast/spybot/keylogger running as a limited user.
another piece of info. when i switch an administrative account to a limited account and then log into that account- it is as if i logged into windows for the first time. "take a tour of xp" pops up. yikes.
when i change to limited user account, everything goes haywire!
