It's hard to say with what little information you've given. What sort of error messages do you get? What errors do you get in your Windows Event Log?

    Basic recommendations:

Upgrade your RAM. Vista is a memory hog. 512 MB is just not enough. You should be able to find a deal for 2 GB for around $100 USD or less. Try www.dealram.com or www.dealnews.com

Use Firefox 2, an alternative web browser. Sure, Firefox is a memory hog also (get the 2 GB of memory!) and it crashes alot also, but it's at least nice enough to try to restore your previous session (what you were doing before it crashed).

all it does is that this "internet explorer is quitting" and then right after that "internet explorer is restarting" thats it.. and then it restarts.. yea i know 512 MB isn't enough but i didn't configure it. My hubbies VA benefits gave us this one. it has worked real well though. but I think its because the 512 MB in my opinion..just that i would ask about it. because sometimes my hubbies Prison tycoon 2 game would just quit ..also. other than that vista hasn't been horrible on 512MB there are just a few glitches that need to be fixed by upgrading RAM. thanks FOGjuice for those sites. i will def. check em out.

here's something from the reliability and performance report when i ran it to check :

Symptom:The system is experiencing excessive paging
Cause: the available memory on the system is low
Details: the total physical memory on the system is not capable of handing the load
Solution: upgrade physical memory or reduce load.

so thats why i think is the RAM ..def need to upgrade.

I know..I thought that was nuts to when we recieved it! i guess the VA didn't know much about what you exactly needed to run vista..or they were just being cheaper..LOL. otherwise its been working real good. I don't have an xp disc though..otherwise i would..unless someone is willing to sell or give me one..lol. I think i'll just try to find 1GB or maybe even 2GB.. i don't remember what it can support..i'll have to check again. anyways ya'll have fun with your 1 or 2gb of ram running vista while i'm sittin here on 512mb getting frustrated at how low my cpu and memory is runnin..LOL

The thing thats bad is PC manufacturers still configure systems with only 512 mb of ram just to hit a price point. A friend at work bought a new HP with 512 with vista basic and it was pathetic. He ended up upping the ram to two gigs and all is good now. Its really sad that MS OS can't run decent on 512. The memory makers must really be happy with vista being everyone has to double their memory to have the ability to run slower then XP with half the memory.. LOL

Stop complaining people, 6 years ago people were *****ing about XP requiring *sigh* 128MB of RAM! HOLY CRAP! 128MB of RAM! People need to realize that OS' aren't designed for NOW, they are designed for the FUTURE. If they were only designed for now, by time it came out it would be outdated. You really need about 1.5GB of RAM to have a good Vista experience, but 2GB is recommended for maximum dual channel compatibility. You can upgrade to 2GB of RAM for like $80 and end of story.
