    hi guys,

when shopping a new laptop with window 8, is there anyway to customize to 32 bit? i checked Dell, Lenovo and HP and only Dell let you customize to window 8 32 bit and only on selected models. i am in the market for the new Lenovo twist but wants Window 8 32 bit installed.

the reason is that there is a old 16 bit software that i really like to have on my laptop. yeah, it's unbelievable but i rather not sacrifice this software. let's just say this software is well designed for my line of work.

    any ideas?

I think the 32-bit version has been marginalized, it may be difficult to actually get on a laptop.

If you really need 16-bit apps, I recommend putting your 16/32-bit OS of choice in a virtual machine and do it that way.

Try running on virtual machine windows 8 x32/x64 with this software. If runs ok,I guess you won`t have any problem upgrading. If not, just update the software?!?try https://www.virtualbox.org/ ,not sure if runs Windows8 thou.

LE: keys from Windows8 works for both x64 or x86

thanks for reply. i have read about running the virtue machine in window 7 64 bit in order to install the 16 bit software. is that still doable in window 8 64 bit?

by the way, i think i am a knowlegble end-user of window software but doing something like running virtue machine would be something very new. is this something that can be DIY.

If you are new to virtualisation, go for virtualbox, it is easier to use and set up than some others. You can install a 32bit os as a guest in the virtual machine running on a 64bit host. If in doubt over virtual machines, use google to search for guides. there are a lot around.
