    wifi setting for visitors

    Is there any way to restrict visitors or other users on using limited WiFi?

    i have this "friend" of mine who just start downloading the moment he sees my WiFi on. :| weird scene is that i can not make him stop doing this. :|

    do we have some software/tool to do this? i have wifi through router

    What kinda security setting to you have turn on? It looks like you have a open wifi and not any kinda password required login of which you should turn on and set. And some routers have guest wifi login and bandwidth restriction usage. You should look into what router your using and what settings they have for protection and turn that on and set your password so nobody can just snoop and login and use your wifi. And also set a guest account wifi that limits bandwidth usage for your so called friend. Since you didn't mention what kinda wifi router you have it is hard to know what to tell you but from my router a Netgear it has guest wifi and bandwidth and time restriction that I can set as well as password protected login that only those allowed MAC address can access my router and wifi and internet. So you should look into your router and make those changes ASAP and tell you friend that snooping wifi isn't a friendly thing to do.

    If you can't make your "friend" stop downloading stuff on 'your' computer, then he/she is not much of a friend. :rolleyes:

    It's fairly straight forward, put a password on the network and don't let them use it, not rocket science lol :)

    Some friend you have there. Set or change the wifi WPA or WPA2 password, and don't tell this so called friend it.

    Have 2 Wifi Routers: Main DDWRT router and vanilla router.
    Main DDWRT Router connects to Internet. It has full bandwidth connection - unrestricted. Password is restricted to you only.
    Secondary router connects to Main Router as a "Repeater". Password is given to visitors.
    Here is the trick. DDWRT can be set to assign "low level priority" to secondary router. This way, if your friends wanna download crap, main router will restrict it when you are using the Main Router.

    This is a crude functionality. I am not sure if DDWRT has other advance features wherein it will limit the speed "per connection" - ie guests connecting at 128Kbps only to prevent abuse... Sometime ago, I believe there is a wifi router than has this.. if Im not mistaken it is called "StarOS" for commercial-expensive wifi routers.
