Okay so I have the RTM Version on my laptop right now...and I have only 2 concerns.
1) It's only good for 31 days right? What keys can I use to make it last longer? At least till the full official version comes out (which I have preordered on Amazon). Are there any available yet? I heard someone say that if you use the Beta/RC keys it somehow changes the RTM version or makes it think it's not RTM...is that true?
2) When I formatted the hard drive that had the RC version of Windows 7 and I rebooted my computer it still went to the black screen that asks if I want to start up either "Windows 7" or "Vista"?
How can I totally remove Windows 7 from my 2nd hard drive so that my computer's BIOS or w/e doesn't go to the initial black screen thinking that I've got 2 versions of Windows on there?
My goal of course is to have the 2nd hard drive empty and to install Windows 7 on the 1st/Main Hard Drive. -
Your best bet is to wait for like what 3ish months. Dont go down the illegal road just wait. -
I decided to go with Windows 7 Home Premium...but I may go up to Professional. Still deciding... -
Can't you just rearm the 30 days grace period? I think you can do it three times, giving you a total of 120 days which will cover you till October.
-
oh yeah hes right you can do that..
-
-
PM if you could enlighten me on the process. Cuz it sounds like exactly what I need to do. Thanks pred though for trying to help.
Can anyone answer this question. Right now I have Home Premium pre ordered. I was just wondering however....IF I bought Windows 7 Ultimate...on how many PCs would I be able to install it on?
EDIT: Thanks predator for Problem 1! -
Technically, it's meant more for PC re-sellers than anything else. PC enthusiasts usually get the benefit of the doubt.
I have an OEM license that I've transitioned to my "third" PC with it no problems. The difference I believe, and not sure if they can see this, is that my PC is constantly evolving. It's never really a fully NEW PC. It's always got more "older" parts than new, except for my "third" iteration of more new than old. -
Run Command Prompt (as Admin) and type cd C:\Windows\system32. Then type cscript slmgr.vbs - rearm and then Enter. It usually takes a few seconds so give it some time but you should then get the message that Windows has successfully ran the command. Reboot and done.
I posted this here instead of PM in case someone else wants to know. -
Ladies and Gentle folks, 7 days and counting till Windows 7 RTM becomes available to the public (not general).
-
I'm geared up and ready to go! Have my WHS purring along nicely in case disaster strikes!
I just don't look forward to installing all my darn games again. -
Can't find any gadgets for the msdn/technet release. I found one for the Oct. 22 release, but I can't figure out the code to edit the release date.
-
Will it be open for download to TechNet members right after midnight (Wednesday night-Thursday morning)? I want to set a reminder on my berry.
-
It's supposed to be on Technet and MSDN on August 8th. -
No, August 6

-
loled
Whole lotta people running recently "activated" copies of W7 looking a little worried right now. -
lol It's good i didn't use any hacks on the RTM and decided to wait till october 22.
-
I'm actually dreading the release...a new OS release means a) I have to spend a whole day reinstalling my computer and all its apps. b) floods of calls from users who mess up their reinstalls.
-
I didn't have time to read the whole thread so sorry if this has been asked before. If we managed to acquire a copy of the RTM can we use that with our Vista key to do a full clean install of W7? Microsoft won't blacklist our key or anything will they? I have the upgrade on pre-order but it would be nice if I could install it now...
-
Check this thread. And it has less pages -
version has now been changed to:
7600.16399.x86fre.win7_gdr.090722-1835 for x86 and
7600.16399.x64fre.win7_gdr.090722-1835 for x64.
if you have already installed the leaked rtm these updates will soon be available via windows update or standalone downloads from ms (or other places) i can post a rapidshare link if i am allowed to do so for the updates only NOT the whole rtm. i will ask if that is okay. -
Real answer: No. Windows 7 has it's own keys which will not be Vista keys. It's a different OS. Just because you have Vista doesn't give you a free license to use Windows 7. You're still expected to buy it, either in a retail box, or OEM with a computer or some hardware. -
Lollll
-
wait so there is a new rtm???
-
-
-
no you misundertood. there are OFFICIAL updates that when applied to the rtm version change the final build numbers it is NOT a whole new build just updates that get applied to the already rtm version
-
-
so they say at this point. but with those guys its always a game..
-
-
Would TechNet/MSDN get updated RTMs on Aug 6th or will the updates have to be applied by the users?
-
-
the updates i spoke about were given to the oem's to be slipstreamed into the final pressed discs.
-
-
-
from my source, they should be. but as keg said if not you will get them the first time you update
-
So, the RTM I buy for my T61p can only be used for Lenovo computers?
-
-
correct rtm mean it is released to manufactures to edit and modify as they need to to add logo'd and oem lic info etc. your copy will be "oem" so that means it is the same as rtm with the added things lenovo will change edit or add to the version so like in control panel it will show the lenovo logo's etc...
-
I don't think zephyrus meant the copy that will come on the computer or as a free upgrade. Looking at the review date from the signature, it is more than a month before the free upgrade program started, so I'm assuming that zephyrus meant a retail/upgrade disc.
Now that I have scanned the most recent threads.
