Sure. Price for upgrade to Win8 was 30$ or so. Not sure if it is still possible though.
Pay attention that 1366 x 768 is awefull for 15.6"

$30 was a promotional price back when 8 was just starting to be released to the public. Then it went to ~$60-ish, before going to the full retail price of $120 ( Buy Windows - Microsoft Windows).

Definitely agree on the display. 768p on a 15.6" is pretty much garage imo. I'd aim for 1080p or better, if you can. At least 900p, though that'd be just a bare minimum.

I thought that if you search then you could still find such low price for upgrade.

To the OP. I suggest you to search half year older laptops (with I7 or I5 which starts at 3XXXM) and GeForce 650M-660M and with better screen resolution. They may cost the same as your "newer" laptop but performance wise about the same. While screen resolution should be better.

Another free advice - wait till Black Friday (or just till November begins). There are some crazy deals on Newegg and everywhere else. Just ask about those deals here because many of them may only look like steal-deal but not that good in reality.
