I'd never use any other Windows than Pro, the main benefit is to have access to the Group Policy Editor which gives you full control over all aspects of the OS. Without it, you'll be very limited as to what you can enable/disable

so are you saying that windows 10 education is inferior to the pro edition? Because from what little info I can find, people are saying its basically the same as windows 10 enterprise which is definitely better then windows pro.

oh my bad, maybe the Education edition has access to the Group Policy Editor, if it does, then you're fine as I am not sure

ok ill have to do some more digging. another question for you specifically since you have dealt with HIDevolution. my laptop will be coming with their 25$ usb stick which has OS Reinstallation + Drivers on it. Do you know if my education product key will work with this? HID can only confirm that home and pro is on the usb. would the usb determine what OS version I get or is that determined by the product key? thanks in advance

Usually, Windows 10 Home / Pro are now the same ISO, meaning, depending on the product key inserted, the appropriate version would be installed.

Windows 10 Single Language has a separate ISO

Since I've never seen a separate ISO for Enterprise or Education, my guess would be that it should work

You can always ask Microsoft Windows support to verify this as well.

after calling Microsoft I'm getting the impression that there is one ISO for home and pro and another ISO for enterprise and education. ill have to confirm this though.

after calling my schools IT department all I have to do is bring in the laptop and they will flash it for me. I do have to bring the drivers though so I might keep that 25$ usb that HID is selling. that way I don't have to go downloading all them myself.

well theres a few options one can do. u can pay an extra fee like 100 bucks to have your laptop come with the OS installed already, or you can buy a product key from Microsoft or websites like Kinguin which kinguin is cheaper (33 bucks) or in my case my school will flash the OS for free onto your laptop just gotta bring it in. if you get a product key from kinguin you gotta download the ISO still from Microsoft. Phoenix has a great guide for this here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/nbr-windows-10-clean-installation-guide.781178/

oh ur probably not asking how specifically for you because you are not a noob to this stuff like me lol.

You can buy the windows 7 pro key and direct install Windows 10 using the 7 key. Kinguin has a download site to download whatever version you need or you could use the key to download right from microsft. I only had one key that i had to phone microsoft to activate and i was for win 7 home.

So has anyone bought and can verify that Windows 10 education product key worked? My search of the Microsoft site indicates you have to be at college to be able to purchase such license and Enterprise is through Microsoft only for Volume license not single user license. So unless someone can verify Windows 10 education without being in college or a business that have a volume license through certified MS support - I am suspecting these license don't work unless done and verified through Microsoft. If the thread is saying what it is saying going through Microsoft Windows to buy would have that same options but there is none listed or shown for the Education or Enterprise version. I am troubled now to think those sites are selling blacklisted keys or registration that will be blacklisted by MS when they see it.

i don't think any site like kinguin is selling education version product keys, only home pro and possibly enterprise. ill be getting my education key directly from my college.

Lucky you I might ask my nephew to buy the Education version and pay him for it as for Enterprise I read you can upgrade from Pro to Enterprise but I have to look into it more.

It is the same as Enterprise and has full access to gpedit, etc. I have education on my XPS 15 for that very reason. If you have access to Dreamspark (now Microsoft Imagine I think), that's what I'd get.

Just a FYI. If that Computer ever had windows 10 installed it does save the serial number in the CPU so you might luck out and be able to install for free. Its worth as shot. use the windows 10 media creation tool.

    Nope.

Win10 (and 8/8.1) OEM keys are stored in the BIOS, but I think what you're thinking of is stored on Microsoft's servers - basically a 'fingerprint' based on the hardware of your PC - if you reinstall windows without changing the hardware significantly, the 'fingerprint' should match and allow activation.

I have done it tons of time. even with hardware changes. but I never replaced the CPU and/or MOBO when doing so. I have wiped CMOS out though and still worked. Had a tower that was being a pain on installing windows 10. After clearing the CMOS all went fine. That PC had a SSD upgrade and Some new RAM. all went fine.

That is wrong it is in the UEFI bios where the factory Product Key is stored. So let's not confuse Win10 users or those wanting to reinstall Win10. If you reinstall W10 on a W10 machine the O/S must match otherwise you will have to buy the new Product Key to get it to work. Most comes with Win10 Home which means your installed will not be Win1o Pro but Win10 Home only. You don't get a free Product Key upgrade to go Win10 Pro that will not happen. Also if you use different Win10 Product Key like Win10 Pro then you probably have to disable the UEFI Product Key to get the higher version to install.
