    Hi,

I recently got a HP laptop which came with windows 7 home premium on it, however, I own 7 ultimate, so after creating my restore discs I decided to install ultimate on the laptop. When I went to reinstall my drivers I realised that the new laptop previously had the 64 bit version of home premium, whereas my ultimate disc is 32 bit.

What I'm wondering is, which is the best option to go for? I only installed ultimate because I thought I might use the language or xp mode options. Will I get more out of my computer if I stick with 64 bit home premium instead? It's not really much hassle for me to reinstall the original software using the restore discs, but I just wanted to know what peoples' opinions on this would be, as I hadn't even thought about it until after I did the clean install.

    Cheers :)

Depends on your hardware and what programs you use.

If you have more than 4gb of RAM or have any programs that have native 64bit executable s that you like to use then 64bit is the way to go.

If you do not meet either of those scenarios then 32bit is just as good for you.

Thanks for your reply. The laptop has 3GB RAM, and after doing a little searching it seems I don't really fall into the category of people who might find 64 bit advantageous (video editors, gamers etc) so I think I'll just stick to what I've got at the moment.

You can use the same product key with 64-bit and 32-bit installations of Windows. I would download a 64-bit Ultimate ISO from the topic in this forum with links in it and install it with your 32-bit product key. It will work, I've done the same thing with both Professional and Home Premium (but not Ultimate).
