Hello all. I do believe I have a virus or a trojan.I have a asus g51vxl rx05 laptop. I downloaded a mod for one of my pc games. As soon as I used winrar to extract all files to desktop, and I clicked on the installer. exe bsod,my computer restarted..it comes up with the startup repair tool. It will scan for a few seconds and tell me its unable to repair.
I am unable to access safe mode..it does the same thing. It reboots and sends me directly to the startup repair menu where it fails to repair anything. I do have the option of running windows normally or startup repair. If I start windows normally,I make it to the windows 7 loading screen where I get a bsod. Unfortunately,my computer was bought used so I don't have a startup repair disk or any backup images.
Is there a bootable anti virus program that I can get? Is there maybe a program I can use to at least get some of my personal files off my master hard drive? I really just want to be able to cure this virus and not lose any information. I wish I could help more with the bsod but its only on my screen for a fraction of a second so I can't grab any codes or anything to give u.
I have one more question. I have a second internal hard drive..if I change the boot order for it to boot first, could I install a copy of windows on that hard drive then scan my other hard drive for viruses and delete the files I downloaded? Thanks for any help, I just want my pc back.

See Windows 7 Universal Installation ... -
Okay, thanks. That will save around 100 bucks. I was reading on the win7 clean install you need to remove a file, do I need to download the tool this this iso as well?

There is a thread her somewhere in NBR that allows you to download the appropriate W7 version legally. Use that and perform a system repair - simplest ding to do.

Trojan's or Viruses don't just download themselves without a little help
You can run Norton from your purchased disk without installing it. Just put it into your optical drive and boot your laptop then follow instructions. It won't have the latest virus signatures is all.
When you say "doesn't work" do you get an error message? What happens just before it goes back to the black startup screen?
If you don't have anything important on your laptop that you need to save you could run the recovery disks you should have made when you purchased your laptop to bring it back to the out of the box state.
