My experience is that 2 GB of RAM costs about $40.

Win7 on 1GB works fine, provided you don't run intensive games or things. For every day use, such as browsing the web or editing documents, it is fine.

I agree. I would say just get the 2GB and be safe.
I agree with this as well. I have 2GB in my Netbook and I monitor my memory usage level running 7 from time to time and it always seems to use between 700 - 800mb on average. Which leaves me with like 1200mb free. But having that free space there is a good thing. You never know when it might come in handy.

    I agree with above.

i am running win 7 on a 3 year old ibm x41 tablet - 1.6ghz processor, 60gig hard drive and only 512mb ram.

i am shocked to see how well it's running. certainly it's slow but bearable and, since my hardware specs are low, not all the fancy features were intsalled/enabled by default. im happy though because, just booting up a default install- the ram utilization is less than 300 megs. im hella impressed!

1GB RAM is on border-line. Sometime, may lag or delay even on some old games which didn't need heavy resources such as Warcraft III.
So, I recommended you to get at least 2GB of RAM. It will be lag free.
4GB RAM is standard for me of course. If you have a dedicated GPU and plan for heavier games, 4GB RAM is needed.

Well, my friend is running Windows 7 on his Acer Aspire One 1GB RAM, and it runs absolutely fine. Of course, it is a lot slower than mine, but it's certainly bearable. He also has Aero enabled.

It would run fine, but for 30-40$ a quick and easy RAM upgrade wouldn't hurt.
That's what I did for my netbook.

He never said it was for a netbook. or what mode. Let us leave the speculations to the birds.
