I decided to get a gigabyte t1028 for work and I wasn't clear on how the student upgrade worked. Does anybody know if I will be able to use the student discount and still get full functionality in regards to the touchscreen and touchscreen capabilities? Or will I have to purchase something else? Will it be 64 bit? It comes with XP so the free upgrade does not apply. Thanks

The $30 discounted pricing for students gets you a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, which comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit discs. Windows 7 supports tablet PCs.

I've seen nothing indicating the version that will be available through http://www.win741.com/ is in any way different from the normal versions. Only thing MS might change is the license terms but that's just the EULA and doesn't affect the operating system.
Technically, buying an academic version of software to use for work is not kosher. I've never heard of it enforced on an individual basis so it's pretty much a question of your own integrity in terms of buying something with the intention of using it contrary to the EULA. I'm surmising here as I've not read that EULA.
Touchscreen capabilities? No idea. That's up to the drivers supplied by the manufacturer of the touchscreen and/or the laptop. As its unlikely there's any OS differences, then it follows that there shouldn't be any issues. -
Though the program, you are not buying an "academic version". You are merely getting a discount on a retail copy of Windows 7 provided that you are enrolled in a College/University and have a .edu email address.
The copy of 7 you receive will have a standard license. However, even with the MSDNAA license, you are still allowed to continue using the software after graduation. -

From that link:
If you click BUY:
Then you click "Buy Now $29.99" in green, you get to the site I linked earlier. This is the student discount, and is available to all students that are enrolled in at least half a credit hour, and have a .edu email address.
However, if you click "Are you a Technical Student? (MSDNAA) Click here." further down on the page (below the green "Buy Now" link), you are sent to the MSDNAA site. This will then proceed to link you to your school's MSDNAA site, where you can pick up whatever software your school has contracted with Microsoft. This is only available to students who have been granted access to MSDNAA through their schools (usually technical majors, such as Computer Science or Engineering). -

Yeah, I just realized that you have a choice of whether to order Professional or Home Premium from the student discount site.
However, everything else stands. This is a retail license, not an MSDNAA one so there are absolutely no restrictions to where you can install it, or what you can use it for. Furthermore, you still have the choice between 32-bit and 64-bit.
And this is the site that you linked:

How do I get Pro? I couldn't find the link that offers the choice between Home and Pro.

I did read the posts above a few times, but I guess I'm doing something wrong because I don't see that option? Maybe they took it away?
