My brohter bought a computer that's eligible for a windows 7 upgrade, but he doesn't need it. Is there any way i can use it on my computer? btw i have windows xp

They send him the discs, so yes you can use it. It's not bound to any computer

If you have Windows XP, then no you can't. He would only be getting the Upgrade Version, which can't be done in XP. the Upgrade Version will only work with Vista.

You can upgrade (custom clean install) from XP to Windows 7.

What I'm saying is that the upgrade version does not allow you to format.

You can still format with the upgrade disc. If someone wants to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit, then clean install is the only way.
But the upgrade disc needs a valid Vista/XP installation before it can do a format.
