    Hello,
I am about to buy a new PC laptop, and windows 8 is supposedly due in February.
So, do I wait for windows 8 to come out and the buy the laptop, or buy it now and update later?

Windows 8 will most definitely not be released in February. Microsoft isn't even about to release RTM versions, and no upgrade program (similar to that for Vista and W7) has been announced whatsoever, so don't count on waiting for W8.

AFAIK it's the beta version that is due in Feb. Final product is still some way off.

Neither do I. In terms of speed and stability, Windows 7 for me ranks up there with Microsoft's best stuff. :)

What can Windows 8 do that Windows 7 can't?

I don't see any reason to wait honestly. It will definately not be as stable as Windows 7 until the first Service Pack as usual

Why don't you wait to cross that bridge when you come to it?

At the moment, the more immediate question is - do you need a laptop immediately?

If yes, then from what I have read about Win 8 - and I am sure some of our more knowledgeable members can provide more specific information - it should run effortlessly with a medium-spec'ed machine that you may buy today. If you are looking to play with the Metro UI, then either your laptop should have a touch-enabled screen (as some laptops currently do) or you will have to experience that on a tablet.

But again, perhaps the more relevant question (in my opinion) would be to ask whether you need a laptop immediately. :D
